Big D

For someone so young, he knows just the right buttons to push to get under your skin, and just as he does... he also knows exactly how to melt your heart.
Today was just another lazy day at home. No where to be and nothing to do. My wife and I were just laying in bed when our seven year old came in and asked one of us to play with him.
Aaand it looks like I'll continue this later. He's pushing those damn buttons again!!!

That's a Rap

Who inspires me? Someone new all the time. Lately I've found myself listening to Eminem. A talent from the ghetto. A rap god to many. To me, he's an inspiration. As simple as that. I've imagined myself meeting him and what I might say. But when and where would this ever happen? I have nothing in common with this guy. I would never attend his concert. Still, the conversation would go something like this...
A crowded hall. He's escorted through quickly. I'm standing against the wall as he passes.
Me: Congradulations!
He stops and turns.
E: Excuse me? Congradulations? For what?
Me: (pause) On a well played hand.
E: What the fuck does that mean? A well played hand.
Me: Well (pause), let me put it this way...
You took grapes and you made wine,
You took rusty metal and you made it shine,
You took a life and made it sublime,
You made a guy like me start a rhyme...
Congradulations, you inspired me.

Yea, I think I'd be pretty happy with that.

Shit shit shit!!!

Procrastination and Fear... Two extremely irritating obsticles that I really need to overcome.

Aside from my attraction to Corvettes, I've always wanted to interview (or simply talk with) the one man whose passion was clearly deeper than my own. A fellow entrepreneur and business owner, a pillar in our community, and a guy who loved cool cars. I missed the opportunity to even meet him.

Rest in peace, Bob McDorman.

For Mike

I met this guy several years ago on a benefit bicycle ride for cancer. Now... I could write an entire blog about the people I met during this event, but Mike stands apart. Since that day, I've been lucky (and even honored) to get to know him on a more personal level. Every time we speak, I learn something new and amazing about him.
For instance: In the fall of 2012, Mike's company was moving him to a new office on the other side of town. He immediately took up collections for money and gift cards (more specifically, gift cards for food). When I inquired what it was for, he said it was for a homeless man that he often fed on his lunch break. He just wanted to be assured that this man would be okay for the upcoming winter (the forecast was grim). Mike didn't pause or get choked up over the explanation, it was just a normal thing. I mean, doesn't everyone feed the homeless daily? Really? His ralley was quite successful from what I understand and also included clothes and blankets.
That very winter, on New Years Day, I made a resolution in his honor. I vowed to make a profound difference in someone's life. I'm not sure how well I've done, but I've put forth the effort ever since. When I know without a doubt that I've achieved this goal, I'll be sure to give Mike 100% credit. After all, he made a difference in mine.

Everyday Inspirations...

I have an amazing life. Not many people get to say that. I live my dream everyday. A beautiful wife, a healthy, hilarious son, an extremely loyal dog (yet, would still go "bye-bye" with anyone) and yes, even the perfect job. What really amazes me though are the people I meet on a daily basis. I hear fascinating stories of heroism and bravery and I'm shown pictures of wondrous places from around the world. Most people still have no clue how good they have it, and even sometimes how inspirational they themselves are to others. This blog is about those people and the life lessons I take from them every single day. I hope you enjoy the read :-)
